Methods of Transport to Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia
Various methods of transport to Russia, the Caucasus and the CIS are a challenge to transport logistics. Same as consistency of cargo seasonal aspects play an important role.
- Transport by Truck
Transport by truck is the main method for consolidation and complete loads. Main routes are via Poland, Belarus or the ferry connections via the Baltic States (North Corridor), the Black Sea States and Turkey resp. Iran (South Corridor). - Train
Transport by train is a second option into this region. Direct connections come from Western Europe via Poland and Belarus, however often also in a combination of ocean and rail transport via the Baltic States or the Black Sea into the Caucasian States with subsequent on-carriage. Next to conventional cargo also ISO ocean containers are shipped. - Transport by Vessel
Next to annual liner services from the North Sea and the Baltic Sea into the Baltic States, The Black Sea and the Caucasian region transport by vessel on the Russian Volga into the Black and the Caspian Sea are an important part of the transport chain during the annual navigation period from April to October.
On-carriage to the inland can be arranged by truck and rail also for heavy lifts from ports of discharge such as Samara (Russia) or Aktau (Kazakhstan) and Baku (Azerbaijan). - Transport by Air
Transport by air is suitable for urgent and valuable goods consignments. It can be arranged by regular flights or charter with high space capacities.
Due to the huge distances, often multimodal transport is applied in order to provide the best and most economical method.
